The old mule tracks along the hamlets of the coast: Minori – Ravello (Sanctuary SS. Cosmas and Damian) – Atrani – Amalfi

Between villages and terraced lemon gardens: the most unknown corners of the Coast.
We start from Minori, where we can see the remains of an impressive roman site, the Villa Marittima Romana, which dates back to the 1st century AD. Built at sea level, the Villa includes a viridarium (Roman pleasure garden) and a great triclinium-nymphaeum (dining room) with a beautiful mosaic from the 3rd century, both opening towards the sea (in the Antique period).
Then we shall climb the antique panoramic stairs towards the Sanctuary of Saints Cosmas and Damian perched on a 350 meters high rocky spur di Ravello, called Cimbrone. Saints Cosmas and Damian were two brothers and doctors, born in Arabia, who had practiced the art of healing in Syria. They accepted no payment for their services, and for this reason they converted many people to the Christian faith. The popular devotion of Ravello’s people for the two Saints doctors dates back to the XII-XIII centuries.
Through a small wood of chestnut trees we’ll join the valley of the torrent Dragone, and go down towards Atrani, a picturesque fishing village, where the San Salvatore de Birecto church, very recently restored, was the place were the Doges were crowned with a ducal cap. From Atrani short stairs will lead us through old houses to the heart of Amalfi city.
